Terminology Guide
The following guide explains the terms used throughout this website and within the Peverholl system. Understanding these terms will help you interpret the information presented on each page and use the enquiry process effectively.
These definitions reflect how the terms are used within the Peverholl context. They are not intended as universal technical definitions.
- Information-organisation system
- A service that receives, sorts, and presents information in a structured format. Peverholl is described as an information-organisation system because its central function is to arrange available information consistently, rather than to generate new content or make autonomous decisions.
- Classification
- The process of assigning an item of information to a category. Within Peverholl, classification happens when an enquiry or record is received. The system identifies the most relevant category for that item so that it can be directed to the appropriate team or displayed in the appropriate section of the review interface.
- Arrangement
- The ordering of classified information within a category. Arrangement determines which items appear first and in what sequence, typically based on recency and relevance. A well-arranged set of records is easier to navigate than one that is ordered arbitrarily.
- Structured display
- A format in which information is presented using consistent field labels, sections, and layout conventions. When information is displayed in a structured way, users can find the same type of detail in the same position across all records of the same kind.
- Enquiry
- A submission made by a user through the contact form on the Enquiries page. An enquiry may be a general question about the service, a request for access, a support request, or a request to correct recorded information. Each enquiry is categorised on receipt.
- Enquiry routing
- The process of directing an enquiry to the team member or team section best placed to respond. Routing happens automatically based on the category selected by the user when submitting the enquiry form.
- Review interface
- The section of the Peverholl system through which users with access can view, filter, and navigate their records and enquiry history. The review interface is designed to guide attention rather than overwhelm users with undifferentiated output.
- Access request
- A formal submission asking to be given access to the Peverholl system. An access request is submitted through the Enquiries page by selecting "Request access to Peverholl" as the enquiry type. It is reviewed by the team, and an outcome is communicated by email. Submitting a request does not guarantee access.
- Status indicator
- A label or visual marker that shows the current state of an item within the system. Common statuses include new (received but not yet reviewed), pending (under review), and closed (the enquiry has been addressed and a response provided).
- Reference information
- Information held in the system that provides context or background, as distinct from an active enquiry. Reference information is typically stable and used to inform responses rather than to be acted on directly.
- Support team
- The team at Peverholl Ltd responsible for reviewing enquiries, responding to users, managing access requests, and handling corrections to recorded information. The support team can be reached at [email protected].
- Correction request
- An enquiry submitted specifically to flag information within the system that the user believes to be inaccurate or out of date. Correction requests are reviewed by the support team. Any change to a record is made following that review, not automatically on submission.
- Structured summary
- A condensed, formatted version of a larger set of information, designed to allow rapid review without requiring the user to read every record in full. Structured summaries use the same field conventions as the full record display.
- Category
- A defined grouping used to organise information within the system. Categories reflect the type and subject matter of the information they contain. When an enquiry is submitted, the user selects the most relevant category, which is then confirmed or adjusted during the classification stage.
